Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
I read a lot of blogs. Almost a hundred, actually. That said, at any given time there are a few that I get really, really sucked into. Here are the handfull that are pulling my eyes extra hard these days:
Verabug
Among my group of blog peers (those of us who have been doing this for 4 or 5 or even more years), there are very few of us who still write honestly on our blogs. In the Age of Google it can feel too risky to write about the juicy stuff, and with the number of trolls crawling around the web it can be pretty rough to bare your soul and make yourself vulnerable. Not so for Vera. She’s been in a year of intense personal growth and transformation and she writes about it very frankly — even the ugly bits. Sometimes reading her blog almost makes me a little uncomfortable — a sign of important things going on! — but Vera knows what she’s doing, and it makes for amazing reading. If Electrolicious were as honest a blog as Verabug, it would be a whole different show around here. Instead, y’all get a safe-for-public-consumption version of my life.
SLOG
The Stranger is Seattle’s snarky scenester alt-weekly, edited by my idol Dan Savage. Many of my favorite local writers (David Schmader, Jen Graves, Cienna Madrid) write for The Stranger and that’s all well and good, but let me be honest: I’m not so much of a print girl. I infrequently pick up a copy of the newspaper, and for some reason I rarely read the articles online. But The Stranger’s SLOG is absolutely the best local Seattle blog. They covered the Capitol Hill Shootings faster and better than anyone else in town, and they’re consistently a great source of news, gossip, commentary, and just great bits of information.
Hiptop3.com
Yes, this is how much of a Sidekick geek I am. I read a blog dedicated to the new Sidekick.
Towleroad
Ever since I left movies.com, I’ve found myself drastically less interested in gossip sites. I still subscribe to a few RSS feeds, but half the time I just skim them. That said, Towleroad is more than a gossip site. It’s a delicious portal filled with pictures of hot guys, gay news, and ok fine, a litlte gossip too. I am totally a Towleroad hag.
Cute Overload
This has replaced the gossip sites as my guilty pleasure. I can’t help it! Those fuzzy animals are just so ANERABLE!!!
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

it takes guts to admit some of the things to the world that she has since coming “out of the closet” with her blog - and amazingly, after she made it public/linked to her real life, she became even more honest.
and, the nice thing about Vera is she is just as honest and straightforward in person.
