Oh, and while nice housepainter works on the outside, Andreas has been busy demolishing our bathroom for its long-planned remodel.

Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

is that cedar shake? i have cedar siding the previous morons - i mean owners - stained an orange/red color. only they ran out of that color halfway around the house and stained it from that point on a weird orange/brown color.
i’m having my house un-painted and then treated so it can weather naturally like cedar is SUPPOSED to do.
i mean, really…why did they paint the cedar in the first place - at your house and mine?

cedar dries out really easily-cracking, warping and bending in the process and will actually catch fire in the heat of summer if not treated. it has to be protected by some kind of sealant or paint. 98% of houses with cedar shingles have them painted..the au naturel look is far and few between. why? who knows…maybe paint is less expensive then the sealant, lasts longer and all that. or maybe its just personal pref.
in ariel’s case, they probably threw on a quick paint job to make it nice for sale, and 2 years later its coming off because it wasn’t sanded first as her lovely painter is finding…
btw ariel, pending results you’ll have to pass his number along : )
