you may want to check the screen in the shower head, or replace the shower head. if your water pressure is good in the rest of the house, it’s likely there might be mineral deposits in the shower head ducts. if that doesn’t solve it, there may be sediment in the line and a good plumber should be able to fix that.

It’s definitely not the shower head, Heidi — it was fine 2 weeks ago. But we did have some plumbing work done as part of the main floor bathroom remodel, and I’m wondering if it josled something in the pipe that’s now interfering with the water pressure. We’ll see.

There is nothing worse than a bad shower in the morning. It’s just so depressing.
Hopefully once your bathroom is done it’ll make it worth the crappy showers.

though it probably isn’t the shower head, it is probably worth taking the shower head off and running some water into a plastic bag/trash can. If there were hard water deposits in the line that got knocked free, they would probably be trapped in the head. Or if there is hose bib ‘below’ the work that was recently done, you can try to let the crud flow out there as well. Lastly, if it worked ‘before’ and doesn’t work ‘now’ , the plumber broke it. He should fix it graits. There is a nice little thing called the State Board of Contractors to help you settle these matters very easily, and in the favor of the paying consumer.

Hey Brodie: I did just what you suggested … and FIXED THE SHOWERHEAD! There was just some little gritty bits that I assume had been knocked loose by the other plumbing work, and collected in the showerhead. Thanks for the suggestion. Der. I should have thought to do that myself.

Your water pressure situation reminds me of what my husband and I went through in our old rental house back in Virginia. Turns out the water heater was rotting from the inside out and clogging all the water faucets with little bits of crud like you found.
Those were fun days–showering at friends’ houses and wrenching my neck while my husband helped me wash my hair in the kitchen sink, the only place left with halfway decent water pressure. We got the problem fixed pronto by our property manager when I emailed every local TV reporter about how the p.m. and home owners didn’t want to pay for a new heater.
Scaring the shit out of them with the prospect of bad publicity worked better than any phone call.
