unfortunately, with a TON of research when it was too late (damn jerks telling me nothing could be done) i found the best vet ever for ratties in ballard. i had to have my ratty, isabella, put to sleep years ago due to a tumor the size of a golf ball (apparently very common in rats). had i found this vet sooner, they would have been willing to operate, no one else would, and they were the only ones i could find that i felt used a sufficiently humane method of euthanization and would allow me to be in the room during the procedure. she was 2.5 yrs old, apparently this is very geriatric for a rat. my heart goes out to you immensely. years later, a roomie moved into my old room and when he moved a dresser aside, called me into the room befuddled about finding a pile of tampons still in their wrappers, a pizza crust, some shiny bits of things, and a partly eaten chocolate chip cookie, and i immediately bursted into tears. he was very confused. *hug*

Lily, it's sort of depressing: realistically, this is the long-slow decline of a middle aged rat's life...they'll both be dead within a year, not because of the mycoplasmosis specifically, but just because that's their lifespan. :( So, while Whisker Kisses' infection may go away, his lungs are sort of permanently shot, and realistically it's just a matter of time.

This is why I told myself NEVER AGAIN with rats after our last rats died. But when Leandra offered them to me, I couldn't say no!
