Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
Thanks to the fabulous Katie Toft, I finally was able to get my segment from Northwest Afternoon onto YouTube for all the world to see. Here’s me trying to explain the wackiness of hula hoops and rave music to a daytime television audience. I wore a black blazer to try to help my credibility, but I guess the braids still gave me away…
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

That was really fun to watch, Ariel. After reading your website for so many years, it was nice to see and hear you “in person.”

Fabulous! You looked GREAT on TV and carried the interview so well. So when are you making your stop through LA for your book tour?

awesome! seeing how the mass media tries to deal with you is fascinating - they seem to get what it is you’re doing, but you can tell they’re really trying to drive it into little sound bites, and it’s smarter (and bigger) than that. meanwhile, i was impressed with how you kept up with her rapid-fire - all your answers came across smoothly without seeming prepared. is the rest of the interview available somewhere?

You were great, Ariel! Looked great and your book sounds sooo cool. I know it’s about weddings in particular, but I love the “do your own thing” and “celebrate yourself/your community” vibes.
My husband of almost 13 years and I had a very traditional wedding compared to what you’re covering, but we did do our own thing by having both our parents accompany us down the aisle and insisting the priest say “husband and wife” instead of “man and wife.” And we also tapped big-time into our community of friends and family for music, flowers, etc. Just little things like that made the ceremony feel more like ours.
How did you find your “bridal lab rats” from all over the country? (I’m doing a research project for a class I’m taking for my master’s on how writers research so I’m really interested in that, but consider this an informal question.)
Let me know if you’re coming to the South.
There are some great sushi places in Jackson, MS, believe it or not.

Great interview! I don’t think I could function knowing a camera was on me.
On a completely different note: Where did you get the necklace you are wearing?

Gah! The interviewer made me nervous. Kind of screechy. You, though, were fabulous. You answered her non-questions really well and articulately!

Adjectives I would have used use to describe Ariel before watching this: articulate, beautiful, well read, informed citizen of the world and extremely intelligent.
Adjective I would add after watching this: adorable!
(p.s. I just moved to the NWest and I just can’t see that show (NWA) without cracking up at the irony.))
