Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

See, I used to do ballet. Do those shoes come with the lambswool and toe pads that we used to keep our feet from utterly falling apart?

Um, those aren’t 2007 fashions. Several of them are fetish shoes, that have been around awhile. Do a wiki search for ballet boots: “Ballet boots and shoes are not, however, intended for prolonged standing or walking. Instead, they act as a fetish object for sexual gratification, heightening the erotic appeal with the elements of bondage and submission, and a heel that can be used for penetration. ” And the last pair, with the horseshoes on the bottom, are used for “pony play.”
I don’t know if the guy hosting the website is doing it as a joke or really believes these are hot new styles, but I’d bet they’re not really showing up in Japan or Italy any more than any other type of fetish wear gradually creeps into the mainstream. You can’t wear that ballet boots more than a couple minutes before your calves start to cramp up, though, so those are never going to be seen on the street.

Thanks for the enlightening comment! Further proof that one should never believe what they find on the web.
