Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
I love that I arrived in New York and almost immediately stumbled across a copy of New York Magazine from a couple weeks ago, which included this article: Kids, the Internet, and the End of Privacy: The Greatest Generation Gap Since Rock and Roll. This article exactly, perfectly fits into a project I’m stewing on, and the fact that I just randomly picked up the magazine and saw it is a delicious fantastical piece of fortuitousness. It sort of made my brain feel like an unfolding origami crane.
Also, it’s just a really well-written article. You should go read it, while I sit here trying to adapt to the three-hour time difference.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

True story: my one time in NYC as a grownup (to the extent that a 21-year old is really a grownup), right after getting a tattoo on the Bowery (which, no, I hadn’t told my mother I was going to do, any more than I’d told her I had no idea where I was going to be living a month from then), I happened to pick up some obscure alt weekly at a Lower East Side cafe of some sort (very Sarah Schulman-y), and it featured some guy doing an interview with my mother.
At the time, my mother was involved in a bunch of environmental activism stuff so it was about that. But of course, at the time, it was more like “oh fuck, the walls have eyes!.
Hope you’re having a grand damned time in NYC, you lucky girl.

The randomness of this occurrence strikes me more as serendipity than synchronicity. But speaking of Synchronicity and Rock and Roll, if anyone has an extra Police ticket for sale, I’m interested.

Totally at random, New York Magazine started appearing in my mailbox around the beginning of the year. I never subscribed, but I’ve been loving it. I totally agree with you about that article.
Parenthetically, this piece from January about the new era of the “bohemian art superstar” is almost equally fascinating.

Interesting that after just thinking about kids, MySpace, kids, Flickr, kids, YouTube, kids, my babysitter (and her Internet habits + my nosyness) . . . I come here and see this post, with a link to a great article (thanks).
It’s something I’m very interested in discussing with a group. The topic fascinates me lately. I’ll be curious to see what you angle on this topic turns out to be.

Stoked to have stumbled across your blog and this article as I consider taking my blog to a major TV network considering exposing me/my personal life/my kids right now. Seriously glad I found this. Thanks for the hook-up with this link. I likeyour design, BTW.

I needed something to balance out all that glamour-pussing I had going on with that old icon. A little over-caffeinated bug-eyed freakyface is much more indicative of my actual personality.
