Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
So I was reading this article about underground perfumeries, and then I clicked over to this article about piperazines, and what do I find half-way down the page? A picture of myself.
It’s extra funny because the picture was taken when I was mockingly dressed up for a candyraver-themed costume party. And now the picture is being used as an authentic illustration of a raverhood. Oh, meta-media. You make a fool of us all!
(Also, I forgot how ugly photo galleries were before Flickr. Poor sad old photo galleries!)

How funny! I swear, I lived a big portion of my 20’s bouncing from rave to rave. My ultra-concervative, millitary trained, brother-in-law marveled at my pink and purple hair and my pants with shiny reflective material and built-in glo-stick holders! haha!! He told me I would regret my choice of style as I got older and looked back. Truth is, I don’t. I cherish those days of bad fashion, chemical smiles, and dancing mania. What he doesn’t realize is that my cloths were a product of my freaky nature leaking out from the insides. And, I’ll always have my freaky tendencies no matter what I’m wearing.

Isn’t that using a picture out of context? But I guess you’re cool with it so it doesn’t matter (it might be a problem if you felt like you were being misrepresented, but I gather you don’t mind being held up as an example of a raver. Heh.)

It’s out of context AND without permission, but meh: the use doesn’t offend me, so I’m not too worried about it.

OMG. hilarious. i’ve written before about how i keep finding images/video of myself being used without my permission in contexts i’m not actually really into… so i empathize. it’s an incredibly cute photo of you, so i can see why it’s popular.

You can buy that photo on Getty Images. I used it on a sales flyer last week.

That’s great: you ARE the rave scene. Unwittingly and ironically, but still…
I have a bunch of Black Phoenix Alchemy perfumes: one of my clients has a huge box of it and is always concocting brews and foisting them off on me in little tubes.

How hilarious! But oops!
I’m the editor of the site in question - it’s a hobby site, me and my friends have a lot of fun doing it, we really have no agenda other than to build an unstoppable army of powerful women which is barely an agenda at all, but with a come-what-may wednesday deadline we tend to throw things like legality out of the window when it comes to finding the perfect pic for an article.
As it happens party pills have somehow managed to make big news in the UK this week so the piperazine article’s getting a lot of hits…
Just say the word, and we’ll take that pic down, promise!

In fact, just had to add - this has happened once before. A girlfriend was reading one of our articles on how to survive the subway/underground, and came across a promotional shot of her boyfriend at the time (the third tallest man in Britain) from a promotional Tango ad. He was sitting on an undergroundtrain wearing a dress. She was somewhat surprised.
God bless the web!

Definitely an adorable photo.
On a related note: I had brunch with a friend of mine who recently got engaged and she said “I just saw you on this wedding website, wacky brides or something?”
Word is getting around!
