Daily affirmations of a word mercenary
When I was in Vancouver a few weeks ago, I did an appearance on Urban Rush, a local magazine show. I think it’s the best Offbeat interview yet — especially since one of the hosts started muttering about shrooms at one point. WTF?
Honestly? WHEW. Mah shit is tard out.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, is in bookstores now.

Very well delivered, Ariel. Nice work. Now come to Iowa for a book signing/party, kay?
What was UP with that guy, all grungy, buzzin bout shrooms. WTF is right. Both the hosts did seem like a lot of fun.

It’s funny: the male host is Terry David Mulligan, who none of us yanks have ever heard of, but who friends in Vancouver described to me as “the Canadian Dick Clark.” I guess he’s like, wildly famous in Canada and was one of the country’s first VJs and stuff? Whatever: he was crazy! He ended one segment by burping.
As you may be able to tell from this clip, I didn’t hear him when he made the shroom crack — kind of too bad, really.

Ariel, you are SUNSHINE. And ohmigod, how much do I love Canadians?!?! If a talk-show host muttered the word “shrooms” on television in the States, they would be on the receiving end of a hefty ass-whoopin from the FCC.

TDM has been around a long time in broadcasting. I too grew up around him.

That was a fabulous interview. That woman looked horrified that you mentioned (gasp!) that don’t need diamond rings–or rings at all!
Can you please jot me in (+ 1) for Los Angeles?

p.s. my boyfriend was shaking his head “yes” the whole time you were talking, ha ha.

Hmmm, I didn’t catch the shroom comments either.
You did present well in this interview. Good job! I love how in the background they have random people driving and walking by, parking their cars, etc…Maybe they should consider tinting the windows.

I thought you were coming to Powell’s in Portland in June. Did that get canceled?
Ariel

Yup: I canceled it, due to lack of interest.

Great stuff - We had our official vows done in the courthouse with “more people” than the judge had ever seen at a courthouse wedding, we had our reception at our favorite restaraunt where we had courted each other for FREE… my wife refused to get a diamond for her ring… I love the interview, as you can tell - Follow-up book… Offbeat Groom *grins*

I pitched that book, Mark — I even had a friend who wanted to write it! — but was informed that there’s no market for groom books. As my agent said, “The only people who buy books for grooms are brides. It’s just not a profitable sector.”
How depressing is THAT?!

That just means that they don’t even get the concept… sad… really
