What I loved:
Meh:
These “mehs” are small issues, however. Yes, the premise is unbelievable, but the flick is so hilariously well-written its flaws are easy to overlook. Go see this movie. It’s the best comedy of the year. I mean, I really enjoyed Blades of Glory, but Knocked Up is the smarter, funnier movie by far. Highly recommended if you like well-written smart/dumb comedies like Harold & Kumar and 40 Year Old Virgin.
*Wouldn’t it be cool if someone made a movie where all the crass funny stoner friends were girls!? As much as I want Smiley Face to be that movie, I’m not holding my breath.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

Wow! I couldn’t agree with you more!!! I had almost an identical reaction. I loved the movie, I love that whole crew, but I definitely didn’t feel great about the fact that she chooses to keep the baby when she’s sees the heart beat. It’s not that it appears to have a political agenda, but it’s too big of an issue to treat the issue of “choice” with less depth. Also, the female charcter thing bugged me too. But otherwise, it’s one of the few movies that I have really really enjoyed watching in a while, and that I found funny throughout.

I think that Martin Starr’s girlfriend in the movie, Jody, stole every scene she was in. Such a funny stoner chic.

There was an article in the NY Time yesterday about Hollywood skirts the abortion issue.

There’s been a lot of debate on the web, especially on feminist websites about the abortion issue. I guess I come down on the side of “it made sense” with the family support she had, and the fact that she had a career to support the kid on, etc.
I liked it. I also thought that the birth scene, though it was played for laughs, was disturbingly realistic.
Did you hear about the Canadian author who claims Apatow stole the premise of her book. Sorry about the source of this link, hee.

female-crass-funny-stoner-friends movie: dude - i will totally make that film if you’ll be in it. perhaps a “Thelma and Louise” meets “Dazed and Confused”, with a touch of “Go”.

This movie wasn’t even on my radar as I didn’t really think the trailer was funny. Gonna try and see it now.
Seen Waitress by chance? I loved that film.
