I decided the writing faq was such an interesting exercise that I’d open the floor to other questions. I realize that I don’t write Electrolicious with much of a narrative, so if there are gaping holes that you’ve never quite understood, half written stories I’ve forgotten about, oddities you’ve always wondered over, ask away.
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

This goes more along the lines of your previous writing questions than anything else, but I’m hoping you’ll answer it anyway.
After you replied to my questions about securing writing gigs this past summer, I started checking out the writing/editing section of Toledo’s craigslist on a daily basis like you suggested. However, nearly everything I’ve seen posted there has struck me as reeking of scammage. My question is: how do you tell which freelance writing postings are legit, and which aren’t?

You are vegetarian and Dre is a vegan- would love to hear more about your history/path to those choices, and also more about the practical aspects (since Dre is vegan I assume all home-cooked meals are vegan?) Any favorite cookbooks you use?
Thanks for the chance to fill in the gaps!

i echo seanshannon’s question. i got some freelance gigs off CL that weren’t necessarily “scams”, but definitely weren’t what i thought they would be, so i’m wondering also what kind of important probing questions to ask potential clients to make sure that your gig is a) not a scam and b) well-defined with clear boundaries.
also, any suggestions for places OTHER than CL to get freelance gigs would be appreciated!

Reading since , what 2000 I guess, I am wondering…
Is the arc of your life somewhat planned or is it as random as it appears. By this I mean, so many moves and job changes etc. Conversely, what are the unchanging elements that mean the most to you? (spouse obviously, but otherwise?)

We just got a beautiful little rescue chihuahua, and I keep thinking about Sassafras and what sort of dog she is and how you adjusted to having a dog in your busy working lives - I’m sure I could glean some of your wisdom in our first few weeks with nano! How did life change? Does Sass have any nervousness or fearfulness issues (nano does!)? Any sources of advice you found useful? Was Sass housetrained when you got her, or was there an adjustment period?
See? I am just full of questions.

Ok. (longtime time listener – first time caller) I grew up a tomboy at a boarding school… with horrid clichéd uniforms. Then my college wardrobe consisted of sweatshirts and pajama pants. Now here I am in my late twenties and I discover I have no personal style. Really honestly shamefully none. And I don’t even where to start.
So my question is basically a plea for any tips/pointers for discovering and acquiring a unique personal style. Of course it would be preferable if your response was geared to someone a few steps too close to being a hopeless cause.
Thanks!
