Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.

It’s actually a Bat Mitzvah.

Did you watch the video? It starts by saying “Seth’s bar mitzvah, 1993.”

A Bar Mitzvah is the term used for a boy’s coming of age ceremony, while Bat Mitzvah is the term used for girls. Traditionally, the ceremony was only celebrated for boys, as it is closely associated with the Talmud and prayer leading, but most non-orthodox Jews now celebrate both Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.

So wait, is the issue that I didn’t capitalize Bar Mitzvah? I’m totally confused on what we’re debating here.

No. I believe the issue Ellen raised was that she thought it was Bat, not Bar. Which it would be If Seth was a girl.
