So I market MSFT as a place to work, not MSFT software or other products. It's an interesting distinction in how and why I do what I do. And why nothing on microsoft or windows support said anything about this problem, even though googling revealed I was not the only person affected... Sorry to rant, Ariel, it was a cool article. I just want to note that not all of us hate MS for purely superficial reasons. Anyway, if anyone is having the same problem, I found the solution here (http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum/windows-xp/32503-no-audio-device-problems.html) at number 3.
