Headed to SXSW
6Mar2008 Filed under: Geek OutFor five years I’ve been trying to convince employers to send me to SXSW Interactive. I’ve been told everything from “Doesn’t relate to your job” to “You haven’t been here long enough for us to send you anywhere” to “We don’t have the money for that kind of thing.” But now! Finally! I have a job that relates, that I’ve been at for a year, with a company that has the budget to send me. I fly to Austin tomorrow. I’ve never been to Texas.
I’m rooming with Alison, and other than storytelling at Fray Cafe 8 on Sunday, I have absolutely no idea where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing at any time. But maybe I’ll see you there!

It’s unseasonably cold right now in north Texas. (I’m in Dallas.) I sighed heavily at the weather forecast last night when I read “snow” and “winter weather advisory”.
So, don’t forget to pack a sweater and a have a great time in Austin. It’s a wonderful (and relatively warm) destination this time of year.

My best friend lives in Austin. Poor thing says it dipped below 70 yesterday. Brrr.

SXSW is pretty cool — I went last year and would say that about 60 percent of the interactive stuff was interesting/informative/worthwhile. But my company is small enough that there ain’t enough budget to send me two years in a row.
Robert Neer is down there right now. I am jealous.
