I took this picture last Monday. Sassafras and I met Pee Kay the mini pinscher on our morning walk, and it was a minute before I realized that Pee Kay’s person wasn’t with him.
Then I spent 20 minutes following him around the neighborhood as resisted all calling and offers of treats, preferring instead to run into streets and intersections. I eventually picking up a small posse of concerned neighbors. We cornered Pee Kay in a courtyard, and he was exhausted and ready to go home by the time I picked him up.
This photo was taken in the half hour between me calling Pee Kay’s owner (yay for a dog wearing tags!) and her picking him up in tears. I guess Pee Kay had escaped from his dog sitter’s car an hour before, and the owner had just gotten the news and was FREAKING OUT.
It was a happy morning though. Pee Kay got a little walk-about. His owner got a happy reunion. And I got to get that awesome “neighborhood banding together!” feeling, all to help to help a li’l guy get back home.
Moral of the story: make sure your dog is always wearing their tags, because it makes reunions happy and easy!

Aww! Great job catching him. This makes me kind of sad, because I once found a stray dog in a library parking lot, but I wasn’t able to get ahold of him. He was very skittish, and I had almost lured him to me by making friendly noises and looking away from him, but a car drove up and scared him off. I hope he’s okay.
