Seal Press published my memoir/handbook, Offbeat Bride: Taffeta-Free Alternatives for Independent Brides, in January 2007. This category tracks my progress, all the way back to when I was still trying to figure out what the hell the book was about. If you’re interested in the book, you should probably just check out the book blog.
I posted this over on my official book blog, but I’m not sure how many of you are over there, so I’ll post here, too: My book is shipping this week from Amazon! I’m not quite sure what happened: I was originally told the book would release the first week of January, then was told that it was being delayed to mid-February, but it looks like the first date was the correct one: books are making their way into people’s hands as we speak!
If you don’t have your copy yet, you have several options:
•Amazon.com
•Powell’s Books
• Call your local independent bookseller — chances are good they’ll have it or can order it. And if they don’t, you help support the book by making it clear that they really should stock it.
• Or … you can buy an overpriced autographed copy directly from me! Only 20 are available for now, but I have more copies on the way.

Offbeat Bride may not be in bookstores for another month, but offbeatbride.com simply can’t wait another day. So, I’m decreeing 2007 The Year Of The Offbeat Bride and unveiling the website.
There’s a lot there — the requisite book information, but also what I hope will become a pretty robust batch of content, including a blog, an advice column, wedding porn, bride profiles, vendor profiles and links, and a bazillion other ideas that I’m scheming.
There are still some kinks being worked out (ug, I see the typo in the header image, and there are some navigation and design tweaks coming, and of course I’m still proofing copy all over the place) but I’d love your feedback. Everything work the way you expect? Anything broken? Pipe up!
Very special thanks and adoration to both my designer Carol Chapman and my ever-helpful webmaster, producer, and coder extreme J.M. Dodd.
Mark your calendars — I’ve finally confirmed the date of my book release party! Here’s the info:
WHAT: Offbeat Bride book release party
WHEN: Thursday, February 8, 2007 7pm
WHERE: The Jewelbox Theater & The Grotto at The Rendezvous
2320 2nd Ave, Seattle, WA
Here’s the official description: Celebrate the release of Offbeat Bride: Taffeta-Free Alternatives for Independent Brides with Seattle author, blogger, and Salon of Shame founder Ariel Meadow Stallings. In keeping with book’s irreverent take on all things weird and wedding, this will be a demented bachelorette party-themed reading with tiaras, penis cakes, and other tacky surprises. Reading in the Jewelbox Theater at 7pm with a reception to follow downstairs in the Grotto.

I just set up my first book reading — it’s at Bainbridge Island’s Eagle Harbor Books on Sunday, February 11th. How exciting!
Hey there. I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings, a native Seattleite who's written my way up and down the Left Coast. Electrolicious is where I post daily randomata, but I also write for a living. My first book, Offbeat Bride, was published last year.
