Hooping Category

Hooping. Yes. As in HULA HOOPING, but with bigger, custom-made hoops. I wrote so much on Electrolicious about hooping that it got ridiculous, and so some friends and I got together and started up hooping.org. That’s where you can find most of my hoop talk, now.

Dance 4 Peace: June 1 2003

Photos from today’s Dance For Peace event. Although actually, they called it “Dance For Freedom” at the actual event. Whatever. You can dance for what you like, I suppose.

Note to those who are totally sick of hooping pictures and desperately wishing I’d get a new hobby already: don’t bother looking. For you, may I present George’s Help Desk Tickets, courtesy of Mimi.

New Hooping Video

So, I made a new hooping video. I hooked my cam up to Andreas’ Mac (which is in the livingroom — which means more space to move around) and recorded a 20 second .mov file…which ended up being 40 MB. Can you believe that? FOURTY MEGS! That’s 2 MB per second. Ridiculous. And my video editing software is powerless to edit/recompress the file. Drat!

Needless to say, this video takes a good five minutes to download even with high speed internet. Realistically there aren’t many of you who have the patience to download a 40 MB video. It’s not that exciting, for godsake.

Hoop Escape

28 Apr 2003 In: Hooping

I’m sure it’s running off to go pee on a hydrant or something.

Thank you, Philo!

hoop4peace_wee.gif

I’ve been begging my friend Megasoul to design me a HOOP FOR PEACE logo, and now that she’s finally given in to my whining, those of you who are aspiring hoopers can go buy your own HOOP FOR PEACE stuff! Hoop-Ts, stash boxes, drawers, and more!

(Oh, and coming soon? www.hooping.org)

First off, I would like to apologize to anyone who I may have showered with overly-effusive spittle, bumped into with a hoop, verbally assaulted with happiness, or spilled soju upon this weekend. It was a good weekend, and sometimes that means I can get a little, um, spastically joyous. Or, as Bjork would say, violently happy. In leiu of some sort of interesting angle, I’m just going to go for chronological order here.

Summary of weekend: by Philo: “I have to go home now. I can’t do anything else today because I already have too much to blog about.”

HA!

Reports from the front:

1. My photos!
I didn’t take that many.

2. Vera’s stuff!
Photos of last night’s blogger party, her post about it (scroll down: I can’t get the permalink to work), and her photos of today’s park hooping gathering.

3. Amy’s thoughts!
Do it, Amy.

4. Min Jung!
Still cracked out, I’d imagine, but she’s got pictures up! And posts! And a vid of me doing my two elbow hooping trick (.avi format). Now, MJ? Go drink some tea and work on that seratonin.

5. Philo’s report.
Complete with what might be my favorite photo of the weekend.

And now, I go to bed.

Disassembled

I hooped so hard for so long yesterday that I’m all a-quiver and a-tremble from the aching. There were at least a half dozen hoopers at the Dance For Peace rally on the beach, and we all compared notes and shared tricks and danced and danced and danced. After having a cruddy Sunday morning, I found myself in a totally blissed out, altered headspace (hoopspace?) for most of Sunday afternoon. And this morning I have ground beef-style blisters on my feet from dancing in flip-flops.

Holly Hoop

Here’s my friend Holly hooping in Seattle.

My coworker was testing out her new camera down at the Dance For Peace rally on Sunday (yes, the rallies happen every two weeks and you should be at the next one), and snapped this shot:

Great hooping site! ::circus hoops::. I especially like the essay on The Hip Revival.
